Hello Rising Starrs Family! The picture above was me last week. I had family in town, and I played tour guide. They were calling me "San Francisco Belle". I hope you all had a restful, fun-filled week.
As we wind down these last two months, we have a lot of set up to do for the summer and fall. Please make sure you're up to date on all our happenings these next couple of weeks!
Enrichment Sign Ups for Last Cycle!
The time has come for our last cycle of enrichments. This year has flown by! We still have the same number of enrichments offered as always (8), but there are only 3 choices for you to choose from for this last cycle. This is because the Streetside, Basketball, Cello, Violin, and ELA Rosters are set. This is to ensure that students involved in those activities have enough time to practice for the end of year showcase. Please go to this link to sign up your child for Swimming, Chess, or Mei Jia.
*Sign-Ups will end this Friday, April 10th and those in swimming will be notified Sunday evening if your child needs to come to program prepared for swimming on Monday, April 13th.
Summer Program Enrollment
We are hosting a Summer Program! It will be from Wed, June 3rd through July 17th (7 weeks) and will run from 9am-4pm everyday. I am in the throes of planning out our weeks, and I am excited for how the weeks will look--especially with at least one field trip every week. Because of the construction that is happening at Starr King, we will be at Flynn Elementary (near Bernal Heights). Transportation to/from Starr King will be provided for those that will be unable to pick up/drop off at Flynn Elementary.
Application Information
If you haven't already, please email me ([email protected]) that you are interested in signing up for our Summer Program. I will email out applications (with instructions) on Wednesday, April 8th for families that have expressed interest. There will only be 120 spots (with a STRICT number of 60 full subsidy spots) in our program, so enrollment will be based on those who turn in COMPLETED applications first. I am giving those that expressed interest a two-day advance notice, before I open up enrollment information to the rest of the Starr King community on Friday, April 10. All applications must be turned into me (Maybelle), so that I can make sure the application is correctly completed and stamped with a date of receipt.
Fall Enrollment
Some of you have already started asking about enrollment for next fall. In fact, I've already gotten calls from families who aren't even current Starr King students (but will be in the fall)! We are all proud of our program and are glad to see that many of you want to stay with us next year. Enrollment for the 2015-16 school year will occur in May, after our summer enrollment process.
STEAM/Earth Month Celebrations
*We have appreciated the recyclable donations! Please keep them coming to help give us supplies for some of our projects this month. We are looking for cardboard rolls (from paper towel &/or toilet paper rolls), cardboard from cereals & perishables boxes, cleaned milk jugs, cleaned 2-liter bottles from soda, and empty water-bottles.
*Mark your calendars for April 30th! We will be hosting a "STEAM/STEM" Night here for all families. More information will be coming soon. If you are interested in helping host an activity, please contact me and let me know. I can provide you with many exciting demo choices to choose from. It'd be great to see some of our parents, who are in STEM-related careers be involved in this night.
Lastly, check out the picture below! It's our basketball team having an indoor practice this afternoon while it rained. I can't tell you how proud I am of this team. These kids all seem so dedicated, and their coach instills such great skills in them to be a professional team. If you want to support them, I know that they are SO hungry and thirsty after their games and would love some refreshments to award their efforts.
