As you may already know from the brightly colored posters around school, the After School Program is hosting a "STEM Night" this Thursday from 5:30-7:00pm! STEM is something I'm personally passionate about, since it is what I enjoyed most about school when I was younger. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Math; and there is a push to rename it STEAM, by adding an Arts/creativity component. Your whole family will be able to participate in our interactive demos. If you would like to volunteer to assist in any of our STEAM demos, please contact me at [email protected]. We would love your enthusiasm to help with a demo booth!
The "STEM Night" event will be FREE to attend. The hands on activities will be free to join, however, we are also holding this as a Fundraiser for the After School Program. There will be Food, Face-Painting, Raffles, and a silent auction with some GREAT goodies to win! The basket shown in the picture has about $70 worth of kid-friendly toys that I'm sure your child will want you to bid for. We also have adult-friendly baskets that will feature SF Giants gear, Starbucks coffee, and wine! The proceeds will go toward the Rising Starrs After School Program. All Starr King families are invited--PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.
On to other news...
Summer Program Enrollment
We are hosting a Summer Program! It will be from Wed, June 3rd through July 17th (7 weeks) and will run from 9am-4pm everyday. I am in the throes of planning out our weeks, and I am excited for how the weeks will look--especially with at least one field trip every week. Because of the construction that is happening at Starr King, we will be at Flynn Elementary (near Mission/Bernal Heights). Transportation to/from Starr King will be provided for those that will be unable to pick up/drop off at Flynn Elementary. Please get an application turned in ASAP.
Fall Enrollment
We are planning to have enrollment for next fall beginning next week. Please stay tuned to communications.
Last Enrichment Cycle
Please check out the new roster. This will take us through the end of the school year.
We want your Recyclables!
As we try to move toward more project based activities within the Rising Starrs Program, I am putting out a call that our families start collecting wine corks, bottle caps, empty 2-liter bottles, empty film canisters, and small cardboard (i.e. from paper towel rolls, cereals and other non-perishables). These items can help us with a lot of STEM activities, like making cars, rockets, & catapults! Feel free to spread this call out to your circle of friends too.
Lastly, I hope to see most of you this Thursday evening for our "STEM Night" Event.
