The picture above was captured last Friday, at our "Heart Healthy Friday Funday" celebration of Valentines' Day. The Program Leaders and I planned a jam-packed afternoon of activities, indoors & outdoors. There was dancing, scooter races, jump-roping to get heart rates up, and a program-wide mural. We also anticipated that the students would all be sugared-out from all of their celebrations during the school day, so we had a "create-your-own yogurt parfait" station. Students were treated to organic raisins & organic granola to be placed upon non-fat plain yogurt... and they LOVED it! The Program Leaders and I are just as excited to execute the fun activities we've planned out for our Lunar New Year celebration. By the way, today's Rising Starrs Trivia asked the students what "Lunar" meant. After 5 students attempted to answer this question, I am positive that all of our participants now know the answer. Quiz your child to see if they paid attention!
With that said, I'll get right down to the announcements.
1) We have program this week through Wednesday. Our program calendar follows SFUSD's, which means we will not offer After School Program on Thursday & Friday of this week.
2) Next week, Feb 23-27, we start program an hour earlier to accommodate the Parent Teacher Conference/Early Dismissal schedule. This means that we have program from 1:40pm until 6:00pm. These long afternoons are the days that we have the highest number of students that come to us hungry. If you can donate any sort of extra snacks (for your child, your child's closest friends, your child's class, &/or whole grade-level), we'd love to have it for our program! We use it as "brain food" while they do their homework.

3) Last, but certainly not least...sign ups for next enrichment cycle are here! Some things to know:
*Sign-ups will last until Sunday, February 22nd
*While a paper-copy is available to sign up, online method is preferred
*Priority is given via "first-submitted, first-served"
*You will be notified of your child's enrichment(s) Monday, February 23rd
*Chess, String Instruments, & Mei Jia will begin February 23rd (i.e. no swimming for early dismissal week)
*There are two new enrichments for the spring: "Streetside Stories" (starts March 16th) & "Basketball League" (starts March 9). Please go to enrichments to read their descriptions.
*While on the enrichments page, you may also notice that there are several other enrichments for which we've never had you sign up (i.e. Orff, ELA, and Cooking/Nutrition). That is because those are activities in which our students participate with their whole After School Program class.
*Please fill out this online form to sign up (and let your Rising Starrs parent friend know)!
